Yanik Silver: The James Bond of Internet Marketing (Part 1)

by Ellen

Last evening I sat in on Eben Pagan’s teleconference call with the “Double-O-Seven” of internet marketing, Mr. Yanik Silver. Yanik is a very talented internet marketer who hosts an extremely popular annual internet marketing event, his Underground Seminar. I attended Eben’s pre-event interview with Yanik and tweeted the event to my Twitter followers, so I thought I’d post my original tweets here and expand on the content a bit:

Tweet #1: spreadsheet your competitors, their usp, guarantee etc and go in opposite direction – When Yanik was thinking about how he wanted to do his first live event, he looked at all of his competitors and then did the opposite! You can use this idea in your everyday marketing as well, even if you never do a live event.

Tweet #2: create unique experience for your customers; they want 2 b entertained book Experience Economy, create conservation Setting the Table – Your prospects and customers don’t just want a product or service, they want to be entertained and come away feeling that they had a unique experience. Yanik recommends the book The Experience Economy: Work is Theater and Every Business a Stage by Joseph Pine and James Gilmore. Business guru Tom Peters has this to say about The Experience Economy, “A brilliant, absolutely original book.” Here’s just one pearl from this book, “Even the most mundane transactions can be turned into memorable experiences.” Another book recommended is Setting the Table: The Transforming Power of Hospitality in Business by Danny Meyer

Consider how you can create a compelling, entertaining, truly memorable experience for your customers.

Tweet #3: prospects/customers make decisions fast, be different to claim customers’ brain space – your prospects and customers make decisions rapidly…so rapidly in fact that they may not be consciously aware that they have even made a decision…they simply see something, and act. You have to stand out and grab your prospects’ “brain space” in a fraction of an instant…before their decisions are made. Recommended book is Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.
